It’s great to speak to you again. I thought for this blog post I would give you a little insight into some of my personal projects that I’ve been working on over the past month.
The first piece I wanted to share with you was my 1950’s inspired Minnie Mouse Dress! This is the first dress I’ve constructed using the “draping” technique, and I created my own pattern. This was quite a big learning curve, but I’m so pleased that I decided to try and create a dress from scratch! All I need to do is sew in the zipper and I’m done! I’m planning on doing a tutorial in the next few weeks on how I created this dress.
This month, I also decided to try making a garment based on an item I already owned. I decided to pick something nice and simple – a Kimono jacket I bought ages ago from River Island. I found this scrummy gold patterned scrap fabric in my stash, and got to work. I used this as a garment to practice my french seams on, and I’m so pleased I did! Im so happy with the project, and I think it looks so cute paired with an all black ensemble, as it really allows the jacket to shine!
The last sewing project I wanted to share with you, was my Paris themed 50’s Rectangle Skirt! I’m so pleased with how this turned out – I found the fabric when trawling through a fabric shop in Bristol, and thought it was so cute! I can’t wait to wear this in Paris next week! This skirt is so easy to make, and I can’t wait to find some more lovely patterned fabric to turn into a pretty rectangle skirt!
I’m so pleased with how these projects have turned out – and I’ve learnt so much through making them!
